News Press Release February 9, 2005 American Renal Appoints Nephrologist DANVERS, MA - American Renal Associates Inc. (“ARA”) today announced the appointment of Donald Leeber, M.D. to its Board of Directors, as a new independent member. “We are very pleased to announce Dr. Leeber as a member of our Board,” commented Joe Carlucci, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of ARA. “The addition of Don Leeber to our Board strengthens ARA’s commitment as a physician-driven company. Don Leeber is a nephrologist who has considerable experience in the renal industry and has accomplished much as a businessman, investor and board member of a number of start-up and mature companies. Dr. Leeber brings a valuable perspective to ARA, a company designed to give physicians the autonomy they need to improve quality for their patients.” Dr. Donald Leeber stated, “I am excited to join the Board of American Renal. ARA has grown a great deal in a few years. It is a company that understands the need to support physicians in providing patient care. I look forward to working with the other board members and management as ARA enters its next stage of development.” Dr. Leeber, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, was a Professor of Medicine at the University of Vermont and is a director of two biotechnology companies. He has been a leader in the field of renal disease and transplantation. For many years, Dr. Leeber was the Director of Nephrology and Renal Transplantation at Maine Medical Center and is founder and past Chief Executive Officer of Nephrology Services, Inc., a company that grew to become the largest provider of dialysis services in northern New England. Dr. Leeber is co-founder of Medical Network, Inc., the first physician-controlled managed care company in Maine. He has served on the board of banks, managed care and other companies. Dr. Leeber earned his bachelor’s and medical degrees from Georgetown University. He holds a master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Wyoming. Dr. Leeber completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh, Presbyterian Hospital and fellowship in Dallas at Parkland Memorial Hospital and University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Leeber is the author of many publications relating to renal disease and transplantation. ARA’s main focus is to develop new start-up
(de novo) treatment facilities in partnership with physicians and to acquire
existing dialysis units in selective strategic markets.
